So... let me begin. I think he started off pretty theatrical - which I, of course, don't mind - but I don't know how the viewing public will feel about it. I love that he took the opportunity to show us his range and what he's really capable of - he was also way more daring on this song than the other contestants and totally memorable. I think that will bring him to the next round - the actual competition. I know I will tune in if he's on it!
I think he's such an interesting performer to have on American Idol since he's clearly the best singer - well, I guess that's subjective - but I think we can agree he's got the best, strongest, most capable voice with the biggest range - and yet he's something so different because of his theater background. He's clearly a seasoned performer - confident, calm, commanding, entertaining - I am a fan. But the real question is...
...is America ready for this? ... I am! I could listen to him for days.

His vocal range is impressive - I think the show will further his career on Broadway and make him more well known. I think though, it would hinder his career to win - unless he is willing to change his vocal style for the use in pop composition.
